SUMMARY
In a chapel in the middle of the desert, two girls meet for the first time in years. Together, they must grapple with their beliefs, an act of forgiveness, and the thought of an existence beyond the violence that has forged them.

SYSTEM SETUP
In our production at the NYU Playwright Horizon, I used the theater rep plot for their small cabaret space. There were four speakers, UPSL, UPSR, Rear L, and Rear R. With the seating configuration, the UPSL and UPSR essentially felt like Mains. I isolated the church world with the upstage speakers, and the rears were meant for the outside desert. I only break these spatial rules when we want to recreate the Beast in the room. I recorded our actor embodying the Beast character and added some FX and grit. Finally, I isolated the bounce: one with text clarity – played from upstage, and the other for the lows and the air in between words – played from the rear. If I were to redo it, I find a way to get a subwoofer in and push the presence of the Beast and the threats of the outside world more.

HOUSE OPENS| INTO TOP OF SHOW
Pre-recorded house announcement, performed by Ariella Hyman-Fessler, we started from her normal speaking voice and slowly morphed the voice quality to embody the Beast. From then we whisk the audience into our world inside the deserted church.
